Things I am excited about this month

I am a huge lover of the month of March. First, my birthday is just days away and despite the fact that 12 inches of snow fell last night up here, you can tell Spring is on the way. Also, I updated the events calendar on our website (thanks to Antigravity Magazine) and I found quite a few other reasons to be excited about the upcoming month.

Thursday, March 5 -7th
The second New Orleans Indie Rock Fest gets kicked off this Thursday with the local powerhouse Caddywhompus and the band I've been itching to learn more about, Pharmacy. It goes all the way up to Saturday at Howlin Wolf with the Darlings from Shreveport, LA, The Peekers.

Saturday, March 7th
Way too much going on this night, but at Tip's they will be having a birthday celebration for the one and only Fats Domino. Not sure what that will entail but I think you will be guaranteed some good music. Also, the WTUL Sounds From the Basement CD release show at the Saturn Bar with the always entertaining Good Guys and One Man Machine

Friday, March 13th
The beginning of the New Orleans instrumental rock fest. It will be 2 days all at the Big Top featuring the likes of Metronome in the City and Smiley with a Knife, just to name a few. It is always exciting to watch bands and people in New Orleans get organized.

Saturday, March 14th
The High Strung from Detroit come to the Circle Bar. They are one of the best bands on Park the Van records and have one of the best bass players I know.

Sunday, March 15th
King Khan and the Shrines comes to One Eyed Jacks to put the F back in Funk. Always an entertaining show that should not be missed.

Monday, March 16th
Caddywhompus CD release party with the Antlers at the Saturn Bar. This will be a great show and it will be an opportunity for all you New Orleans kids to show your love back to this hard working band and give them some money for what should be an amazing CD.

Saturday, March 21st
While I am at SXSW, you can go and enjoy the Alternative Media Expo at the CAC. Their after party at Jacks with the Buttons and Ballzack should be a fun dance party as well.

Monday, March 23rd
The Black Lips are back and you know what that means, wear a rain jacket if you are close to the stage. Always a good time and their new album is worth hearing live.

Wednsday, March 25th
Yacht and Chairlift will be at the House of Blues. You know Yacht as the true brains behind the Blow and Chairlift from that I Pod touch commercial.

Saturday, March 28th
MyNameIsJohnMichael CD release show at One Eyed Jacks. A bet and a song a week for one year later and this is what we get...a CD with a lot of blood sweat and tears. Be sure to go out and show your love for all their hard work.
