Voodoo and City Park at Odds

This was announced on NOLA.com while I was at SXSW. As we pointed out before, Voodoo Fest this year is trying to have their festival to Halloween weekend and now City Park is saying that they were already booked on those dates and must move to their usual date, the weekend before all hollows ever. City Park's board of commissioners is slated to meet today Tuesday to discuss the matter.

I think this is a blessing in disguise. I am aware that they may have to bite the bullet on some artists and such with their non-refundable payments, but I think competing with an amazing free holiday like Halloween will only hurt their attendance, not help. I have a feeling this will all be worked out. and they will be on Halloween weekend though. What are your thoughts?

I think Rehage is using the media to try and force City Park to allow him to hold it on Halloween, in order to capitalize on the Widespread crowd that's coming to town that weekend. Those hundreds of people will go to voodoofest when they otherwise would not make 2 trips to New Orleans. I do not see a case of conflicting events and holidays, I see it as Rehage wanting a piece of that crazy Halloween/Widespread tourist crowd and he's trying to play dirty to get his way.

And what's the deal with the petition? Don't say, 'the dates previously scheduled' say the dates! Otherwise you're going to have a petition full of the same idiots on nola.com crying about voodoo being cancelled, not people who understand the distinction between wanting to have the festival on the weekend before Halloween and wanting to not have the fest cancelled, period.
