Wikipedia describes a hangover as "the sum of unpleasant physiological effects following heavy consumption of a drug." That is how my NOLA brothers must feel after Jazz Fest and by the looks of the upcoming events calender (thanks to our brothers at Antigravity) the jealousy may move from me to you to you to me especially as it gets even hotter and there are more music related events going on up here then down there and honestly isn't much going on in May so this may be a short post.
FRIDAY 5/8
Right off the bat you are coming to me if you want to be where it's at! One of two events we are sponsoring this month, Brooklynola, will be going down at Public Assembly here in my neighborhood of Williamsburg with the Queen of Soul, DJ Soul Sister, the new darlings of the NOLA rock scene, Generationals, as well as North American Wildlife, Simon Lott, Mike Gamble, and Marc Friedman. It will be a fun night and if you do see me that night I will probably be super drunk.
INTERVIEW: Generationals
MP3: Generationals - Angry Charlie
SATURDAY 5/9
Big Rock Candy Mountain's CD release party with The Blue Party and The Revivalists @ Tipitina's. I know there are a lot of college kids that read this blog and I know this is a time of year you are excited about, because it is the official beginning of the summer and end of another semester in college down. Well, back in NOLA you can treat yourself with some solid bands, with Big Rock Candy Mountain celebrating the release of their first album.
INTERVIEW: Big Rock Candy Mountain
MP3: Big Rock Candy Mountain - Rocketship
Also, this night will be the second day of celebrating the love affair between Brooklyn and NOLA at The Saint with DJ Japanster and The Captain.
FRIDAY 5/11
On a Static Television note, we are excited to be interviewing the Crystal Antlers in Brooklyn. Be on the look out!!
FRIDAY 5/12
on another programing note, Static TV will have a new episode on the air this night. It has been a long hiatus while I got a new computer and wrapped up a project I had been working on up here. Sorry for the delay, but we will be back with our exclusive interview with Titus Andronicus and a classic interview!
FRIDAY 5/15
An unfortunate night, because there is so little going on this month in New Orleans and there are again two things this night that you should see. One of my favorite bands in Louisiana, Brass Bed, will be playing at the Circle Bar. I have a feeling a lot of you will see who else is playing that night, TV on the Radio, but if you haven't seen these guys live yet, do try, and make it out to see them. They will be in New Orleans next month for a big show with the Peekers and Generationals, so see them then!
Like I was saying, Brooklyn legends, TV on the Radio, will be playing at the House of Blues with Little Dragon. They put on amazing live shows, so this will be worth the service charge and overpriced drinks. I have also read that TV's drummer, Jaleel, will be DJing at the Saint that night.
INTERVIEW: Brass Bed
SUNDAY 5/24
The second party we are a part of and very excited about is Memorializer at the Saint. This will be my first time back in New Orleans since coming up to New York for work in January. This is the second longest stretch I have been away from NOLA and the longest was due to Katrina, so this will be a pretty emotional return home for me. What better way for me to celebrate than to throw a party with my dear friends with Park the Van Records, Humid Beings, Dirty Coast and Defend New Orleans. We will have free BBQ from the Joint (donations will be much appreciated), drink specials and special performances from some Park the Van bands you love, the Generationals playing an accoustic set and the Peekers covering the Teeth's Carry the Wood and I will finally see Drew Stubbs DJ. If you are a reader of this blog, I want to show you my appreciation so come out and introduce yourself, and I will buy you a drink!
MP3: The Peekers - Close My Eyes
If there is something else I should be excited about, then let me know about it!!! Email any events that I should know about to info@statictelevision.com
