I have a select few people that when they tell me about an artist I stop everything I am doing and listen to said artist. One of those people is Richard. He is a friend I met up here in New York, but he is originally from New Orleans. I should have met him through my rave days, but never did. Regardless, he has an amazing ear for music and shortly before I left town he sent me a link to Bibio's Myspace, and I was once again reassured why I listen to his taste in music.
Bibio reminds me why I still make the effort to listen to new music. It is truly original, and something that would be great while working or while trying to wind down at the bar. At age 12, Bibio tried his hand at rock and felt trapped. At age 16 he discovered electronic music and never looked back. Lucky for us. He blends ambiance with strong drum patterns that remind me a lot of the best of Boards of Canada mixed the Avalanches with a modern glitchyness that reminds me of Flying Lotus. I mean, with a combination of comparisons like that, how are are you still reading this post?
This British native is signed to the fabulous Warp Records and his Ambivalence Avenue record is well worth checking out. Here is the title track off that album.
