Talk about lo-fi. I always wonder about lo-fi. How much of it is out of pure necessity, and how much of it is by choice. With New Orleans' Frozen Bear it feels like they relish in it. This duo mixes steady drum beats and simple guitar rhythms to seat a great mood. The MP3 here for the song "Tape Eater," off their album 2000. It sounds like something from the underground scene of Portland in the 80s rather then something out of New Orleans from the 2000s. This great track has simple instrumentation which makes me believe they are not playing out of their skill level, but works beautifully with this song and throughout the whole album. I kind of hope they never grow above their 4 track machine in their bedroom, but hey don't they all start there? It is hard for any person not to want to play with new toys, right?
MP3: Frozen Bears - Tape Machine
The whole album is great, though I feel they could have made two albums out of it. If you get a chance navigate through their website and buy a copy, especially if you like this track here.
