Celebrate New Zealand

Well CMJ is in full swing here in NYC and I am getting to go to my first party tonight. Dan got to go to a party last night and I am trying to upload pictures, but Flickr is acting a fool. But, tonight I am going to a New Zealand music showcase that Giant Step is presenting. Apparently more then the Flight of the Concords has come out of that peaceful land and there is a lot of really neat, interesting hip hop coming out of there these days. I wanted to post 3 MP3s of a few of the bands that jumped out of me for tonight.

KIDZ IN SPACE

Kidz in Space remind me a little bit of Why? and some of the Anticon hip hop here in the states. I think it is pretty interesting, and I am looking forward to see what else he has. Hip Hop is a hard sell for me live, though.

DAVID DALLAS

Way more on the poppier side of things. David Dallas used to be apart of the Kiwi hip hop duo Frontline where he used to be known as Con Psy. This track here is really well produced and is a nice hip hop track. This comes off his solo debut Something Awesome.

SMASHPROOF

Smashproof is made up of Tyree, Young Sid and Deach. Their hit “Brother” stayed 11 straight weeks atop the New Zealand charts. Based on this song, I can see how.
