Get to know the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble

Last week, at the Iggy Pop book signing, he mentioned this is his favorite band right now. I totally see why, and I think my New Orleans friends would be into these guys. The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble is from Chicago, and you can tell the difference between a group like this and say Rebirth that come out of New Orleans. It appears to be the horn section. I think trumpet players in New Orleans see legends like Louis Armstrong. and think that to present a big sound one has to blow hard (don't take this wrong). Now, I am assuming here, that since the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble comes out of a Miles Davis culture, the sound of bands like this have developed in a less dominant form as far as the trumpet, which I can really appreciate. I really hope they play at Jazz Fest this year. BTW, I am not too sure if this post makes much sense. My brain is already fried from CMJ-a-palooza. UGHHHH. Enjoy the video.
