In a Canada state of mind

Last night was all about New Zealand, and they showed me a few things. One, they know how to drink Vodka better than most, and 2 that they have a great selection of up and coming acts (pictures to come later). Tonight is all about Canada, our neighbors to the North. Unlike New Zealand, Canada already has a hell of a "indie" music reputation with Broken Social Scene, Arcade Fire (Yes I know one of them is from Texas) and Feist hailing from there. Here are a few of the bands I checked out that I am excited to see tonight at the Canada showcase at Arlene's Grocery presented by my good friends over at the Muse Box.

WE ARE WOLVES

This band was really hard to choose a single song to post. They have a lot of good songs off their Invisible Violence album. It makes me miss when publicists would just send me a single. As much as I love getting whole albums, I also like not thinking at times. These guys just seem like they rock and have fun with it. Though, they look more like Vampire then wolves.

PARLOVR

These festivals are tough, man. After a while it all starts to sound the same, and you ask yourself how will anyone make it out of this shit show. These guys seem fun enough and care free to not let this whole rat race get to them. I mean, just look at the press photo. Because most of the time I do just judge bands based on that alone. Good luck guys, and I hope that is your cat that you are holding like that.

MALAJUBE

At this point, I have resorted to going on these bands MySpace pages, and seeing what is the most plays. I figure those have the greatest chances of getting lots of plays on Hypem, and thus giving me more hits. Because at the end of the day guys that's what its all about for me, hits. Now let me get out of my head for a second, and tell you the thing I really appreciate about this band is that they actually sing in their native tongue. I always bitch about how bands never play in their own language (::cough::PHOENIX::cough::); but they do. And, you know what, this will probably hurt their career, but I really appreciate them trying.
