Broken Bells is a collaboration between the Shin's James Mercer and Danger Mouse who was made famous from his work on Gnarles Barkley. The debut album was released today.
The album is amazing. It is what I usually dream about when I think about the Shins. His voice and lyrics are so great. The kind of stuff I want to hear at the moment in a movie when the two protagonists of a film realize that it was they that were in love.
Danger Mouse, aka Brian Burton, seems like he can come up with amazing beets while cooking breakfast. He does an amazing job on this project. His beats complement the vocals of James, instead of taking away and drawing attention to itself. With his use of simple piano and guitar rifts letting the mixture of the lyrics and rhythms take you on a journey you will keep wanting to come back to for weeks if not years.
