Fist Impressions: The National - High Violet

The National, originally from Ohio (come to New York LeBron!) and now currently Brooklyn residents, released their fifth full length album, High Violet, this week. This is also their first album on 4AD. They have been on a roll coming into this album. Both of their previous records, Alligator and Boxer, were both critically acclaimed and have led them to a good place as musicians. Their latest album follows along the same path of wonderful melodic vocals backed by production that works beautifully with Matt Berninger's baritone voice.

As with the previous albums, the National's strength is Matt's voice and lyrics, talking about love and search for self. This album to me doesn't grab me initially as the previous ones did, but as a big fan of theirs it is something that will keep my ears dancing for some time.
