Ryan Adams & the Cardinals: A View of Other Windows

Ryan Adams & the Cardinals: A View of Other Windows
reveals an unprecedented, intimate look at Ryan Adams and his band the Cardinals through the evocative photography of lead guitarist, Neal Casal.

An intensely personal collection of 200 photographs, Casal has captured the exhilaration of the stage and studio while sometimes exposing the solitary aspects of the creative process and life on the road. With an introduction by Ryan Adams and an afterword by legendary musician Phil Lesh, this collection will be revered by fans and is the official documentation of the beloved band.

This book will be out next month and will cost about $25 in the United States but you can order now on amazon for $16.47!

The Pharmacy signs with Park the Van

Garage rockers from Seattle via New Orleans have recently signed with Park the Van records and are releasing their debut album Weekend. Since moving to New Orleans, The Pharmacy have been working hard in their Bayou St. John home producing some really great songs with a "4-track, a used microphone and a cheap reverb pedal." It's obvious they didn't need more than that with the raw sound of these first two singles.

MP3: Freelance Whales - Generator 2nd Floor

First thing that caught my eye. Freelance Whales out of New York have been residing on a Farm Colony for a while and enjoy collecting ghost stories and now can be seen performing at subway stops. I feel for those guys! Generator 2nd Floor is the first single off their debut album, Weathervanes. It is something that I don't traditionally fall for. But, it is wonderfully produced and spacy lyrically that it really draws me in and makes me want to hear more. It will definitely make me look twice when a band is playing at the Bedford stop.

Free Gucci Mane/Diplo Mix Tape

This one goes out to Patrik from Hosey who thinks us bloggers don't really listen to music that we talk about. I've listened to this album now a whole 4 times! Totally makes me an expert.

The man that broke M.I.A. with his mixtape Piracy Funds Terrorism, Diplo, is back with a brand new mixtape featuring fellow southerner Gucci Mane. This album starts off super strong, and got me excited since it is a talented rapper flowing over some really amazing beats. The album featuring tracks by Diplo himself as well as Static favorite, Flying Lotus and DZ to name a few. This album exemplifies what is going on in modern rap. MCs speaking over dance music. Personally, I am SO happy this is going on, though I do miss the days when artists like Outkast and Dr. Dre were just influenced by the music, not just trying to emulate what they hear in the club.

You can download the whole mixtape HERE. Also, here are a few of my favorite tracks so you can get a taste of what this album is all about.

MP3: Gucci Mane - Dangers Not A Stranger (Diplo Remix)
MP3: Gucci Mane - Dope Boys (Bird Peterson Remix)

Dark Dark Dark to release new EP in March

Dark Dark Dark, who Amy beautifully wrote about recently, is releasing a new EP this March 9th in preparation for SXSW. The new EP is titled Bright Bright Bright and will be available only digitally or on vinyl. If you missed them playing at the Saint last night, they will be playing on March 20th in New Orleans at All Ways Cafe which I am assuming is the All Ways Lounge. Here is the first single off the new EP.

PHOTOS: MyNameIsJohnMichael at Throwback Night 2/5/10

So, my first night in New Orleans this past weekend was spent at the Republic. I was at the Courtyard across the street, so my life was good (thanks mom!). Their weekly event Throwback featured the New Orleans darlings MyNameIsJohnMichael. The theme for the night was Golden Girls, just in case you were wondering.

The set list. The covers they did were Shake That Ass by Mystikal, Sabotage by the Beastie Boys and a Nine Inch Nails song that I can't remember.

By boy Leo, who I have known since we were in High School. What up Brother Martin class of 2001!

Click HERE to see all my pictures from that night.

I got my eye on you, Javelin

Finally getting back to it after my Super Bowl hangover. Never thought I would see the day when the New Orleans Saints were deemed World Champions. Still hasn't fully sunk in. So, once again I am way behind on press releases. This was the first one that really grabbed my attention. The Brooklyn duo Javelin is Tom van Buskirk and George Langford and they make some pretty cool music. They have a total throwback sound and apparently do the same cave diving that I have always loved from the likes of RJD2 and DJ Shadow. They have a new album about to come out called No Mas and going to hit the road with Yeasayer, who will be promoting their highly acclaimed Sophomore album. I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot more from these boys in Javelin at least I hope so.

Lil Doogie, Saints ya dig!

This may not be appropriate for work, but once your boss sees it's a Saints video he or she probably won't care. Our old friend Lil Doogie is back at it again and it appears he too is wrapped up in Saints fever. I am actually on a train now headed down to New Orleans to watch the Super Bowl with my people so, Who Dat.

Interesting, random facts:
The saints are 0-1 when I post a Saints related video before a saints game and they are 1-1 when I wear my Saints hat on game day. They are however 2-0 when I wear my 2009 NFC South Championships shirt without taking a shower.

Static making some changes

We here at Static are super excited to start our 4th season, and we are hoping you are too. We are planing on having a new episode this coming month but there are some changes we need to let you know about before the new season starts.

As of February 23, Cox 10 will become Cox 4 New Orleans. Static TV will now air three times a week: Tuesdays at 10:30 p.m., Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. and Fridays at 10:30 p.m. on Cox 4. That means we have added an extra time slot. We are also switching to a 30 minute format so I will be able to consistently bring new content, because making content for a full hour without commercials is very difficult to pull off for someone when it's a labor of love. We will start premiering new episodes on Thursdays since it is more of a prime time slot.

Speaking of commercials, in order to keep the show on the air we will be required by Cox to air 3 minutes of network commercials. I hope this doesn't make you change the channel!

Well, that's all the technical news, so change your DVR and get ready for a great season. We are starting out the new season with some great interviews from New Orleans own Impulss to some of my favorite bands of last year PANTyRAID and the XX. We are also working very hard at getting a podcast up and running that would have the shows on them as well as mixes and extended interviews.

REVIEW: Spoon - Transference

So this is a great opportunity to call myself out on something. I usually get on bands for doing the same thing from album to album because they have established a sound that sells for them.

Last week, I heard the latest Spoon album titled Transference, and was disappointed. I was upset because it didn't sound more like Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, which I liked because it was a change for them in sound and production. This album was probably their most successful to date. Ga was an awesome Pop record that I couldn't seem to get off my play lists that year.

On my first listen to Transference, I was asking what happened to the production? It seems like they went back to their old College dorm to record the album. And after a second listen, it really dawned on me; that is exactly what makes this album awesome. The fact they took the risk of finding something that worked and taking a new twist on it.

Britt Daniel's lyrics are the same as they always are, on point. His raspyness is fantastic over songs about heart breaks and trials and tribulation over relationships. It's easy to tell from his lyrics alone that Britt has seen his share of relationships and has broken a few hearts in his time; so watch out ladies.

If you are a fan of Spoon, modern rock or a good interpretation on Pop music I wouldn't hesitate picking up the new project from the Austin boys.
