VIDEO: No Age - Fever Dreaming

Brand new video from No Age by one of the best music video directors working today. I always love videos that look like they were a lot of fun to make. Great surprise ending, you have to actually pay attention to this one.

Chinquapin Records are making a difference

I have slowly been taking baby steps into trying to do this again. I love doing Static. If not to entertain you, but to help me discover new music and break up my TV jobs. Throughout my years of doing this, I have met a lot of bands and happy to say I am still friends with a lot of them. One of them, Caddywhompus, I would have to say are some of the hardest working people I have ever met. And it shows.

They are about to hit the road again to support a new EP, but their focus has been Chinquapin Records, which is their own musical collective where they are helping to independently support and distribute their friends and other musicians they love. This is the kind of thing I believe we all strive for. To pull a Kevin Smith and say screw it to the system. Just go about it the way we feel it should be done. Well, they are doing it and they are doing their way. Go out and support them and other artists trying to break the conventional ways of thinking.

Also be sure to check out the video I did for them last year:

VIDEO: Frank Jordan - Fumble

Things I hate:
Fair weather fans
Less than 4 hours of sleep
and bad art

Things I love:
The Falcons losing in the playoffs
The idea of robots doing my work for me
and Old School Tuesdays

Now you probably hate the lack of posts I've been doing. I know what you are saying: "Hey, where has Static been? Those guys use to make a new show every other week and they would post stuff to this blog like 3 times a week" Well you are totally right. You know what happened? I got steady work. But, I have been tweeting a lot of awesome stuff lately @statictv and I am trying to think of original stuff to post. You know what the problem is? Just like all other media formats, I am getting killed by Facebook and Twitter. Do you really want me to post something that isn't original or that doesn't add to this non stop news cycle that we live in? If you said yes, well than screw you!

This week I was inspired by my friend Chris from Park the Van records, who on his Facebook posted this gem. This bad from the Sacramento area is a band that helped me get back into rock and roll. I was just coming out of my electronic shell in high school and entering college.

You may ask, where are they now? Well they recently did a reunion show in Sac town, Mike, the lead singer, has been doing his own stuff for a while up here in New York and recently played with Scott from Dr. Dog.

VIDEO: Nine Inch Nails - The Perfect Drug

Ahhhh, old school Tuesdays. I am really liking this. It is really getting me to look back. A popular question people always ask me is what was the first CD/cassette you ever bought. (SIDE NOTE: I guess that question will eventually change to, what was the first MP3 you bought? Crazy! I mean kids in the future will be acting all cool saying it was Lady Gaga when they know it was good old Justin Bieber) Well I am not ashamed of the first cassette I ever bought. Green Jello, Cereal Killer was the first cassette. No lie. I was super excited. Even more excited when the Jello company made them change it to Jelly. I really thought I had a collectors item on my hand. Little did I know that it would simply decrease in value along with my Master P doll. Also, due to copyright laws, I can't play the awesome Three Little Pigs video. But I can play you Nine Inch Nails, The Perfect Drug. The first CD I ever bought was a twofer. I got Nirvana's unplugged album (still a constant repeat on my ITunes, which turned 10 this week!) and Nine Inch Nails, Pretty Hate Machine. I chose the Perfect Drug video because it was on the Lost Highways soundtrack, which I loved, and because it is my blog.
What was your first MP3 you ever bought?

AUDIO: Kilo Ali ft. Big Boi - Love In Her Mouth

One of my favorite rap albums last year was Big Boi so why not play a classic gem that he appeared in. This reminds me of cruising the parking lot of Lakeside Mall more than probably any other song. Shout out to all my Arcade hooligans from back in the day.
WARNING: if you can't tell by the title...this is a vulgar song.

Also a note that Kilo Ali totally releasing a new album this year called Heiroglyphis (yes thats how they spelled it). I know you are all going to pre order it now on Amazon...

VIDEO: REM - Sweetness Follows

Old School Tuesdays...thoughts? Whatever, I'm going to do it. I am at an age where I feel too old for a lot of new music and I hang with a lot of people who tell me I'm too young to understand other music. Well, I think if anyone can bridge a gap it's REM. This is off one of my favorite albums of all time.

VIDEO: James Blake - Limit to your Love

One of my New Years resolution is to give a little more time to my passions. So here I am. Not going to make excuses, just going to bring it. Shout out to our old producer Jared for showing me this. This will probably be the best album of 2011. Very innovative stuff here. This is James Blake doing a Feist cover. Have good Headphones for this. Your shitty speakers on your IPad will not give it justice.
